Baseball: Cubs Yu Darvish announces first victory in second start of 2020 season

The second start of the short MLB season on Friday saw Yudalbish win, Chicago Cubs defeating Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3 and six shut-out innings.

Derbish (1-1), who signed a six-year contract with Cubs in February 2018, shot two out of seven batters out of the 20 batters he faced in Wrigley Field, hitting one with an 86-pitch outing.

Jason Kipnis struck out four homers with a solo from Pittsburgh starter Trevor Williams (0-2).

“The game rained early yesterday and I was able to get home quickly and relax. That was good,” Derbish said.

“I had a control problem early on, but it improved after adjusting my mindset.”

Dervish began Friday’s game with the Pirates after the scheduled start with Cincinnati Reds was postponed due to Thursday’s rain.

With less than his season debut on July 25, Japan’s right-handed allowed three runs in just four innings against Milwaukee Brewers.

The global pandemic has reduced MLB’s regular 2020 season to 60 games. The season began on July 23, but is again in jeopardy as coronavirus positive test results between players and coaches have transformed the MLB schedule into a mess.
