Kabuki Theater reopens after a five-month pause for coronaviruses

Kabukiza in Tokyo resumed its performance on Saturday for the first time in five months after taking measures against the new coronavirus that caused the closure.

Fans welcomed the re-appearance of Kabuki actors, including Ainosuke Kataoka, scheduled for August. The operator measured the body temperature of the visitors at the entrance and took preventive measures such as keeping the performers away from the audience than usual.

“I feel that in a harsh environment like today’s, I need a rich life like Kabuki,” says a 58-year-old man who visited the theater for nearly 20 years.

On August 1, 2020, at the entrance of Kabukiza in Tokyo, visitors await reopening following a five-month closure due to a coronavirus pandemic. (Joint)
